Write the care brief first
State child age, hours, meals, naps, transport, bathing, homework or other expected duties. Separate essential duties from optional household help so both sides understand the arrangement.
Check the caregiver and handover
Ask what identity, experience, references or checks are available for the arrangement. Before the first session, explain routines, allergies, medicines, emergency contacts and who is authorised to collect the child.
Agree on communication and exceptions
Confirm rates, minimum hours, late return, cancellation, transport and emergency spending. Decide how updates are shared without posting private child information publicly.
Define the proposed shift and responsibilities
Describe the hours, duties, household arrangements and communication needs relevant to the enquiry. Ask what the caregiver proposes to undertake, what is excluded and how suitability or reference statements can be checked. Keep important unanswered questions visible. A profile or brief conversation does not establish that a caregiver has been independently verified or accepted for your family.
Agree changes and the handover process
Ask for the fee basis, minimum hours, transport, schedule changes and cancellation terms in writing. Agree who gives instructions, how a concern is escalated and what is recorded at handover. Share child and household details privately only when necessary; do not put sensitive instructions into public comparison links.
